Auto Safety Tips: Theft prevention

  1. Park in well-lit, busy areas.
  2. Always lock your vehicle and roll up all windows and never leave keys in the ignition.
  3. Keep spare keys in your wallet and not in an obvious place on the car.
  4. Put parcels and valuables in the trunk or take them with you.  If they must be left in the car, cover them when you leave.
  5. After opening an automatic gate to underground parking, watch out for thieves waiting to slip inside. Wait for the gate to close behind you.
  6. Engrave your stereo and other on-board valuables with your driver's license number.
  7. Autograph or put a small discrete code or identifying mark on the windshield, or windows to help identify the vehicle.
  8. Consider investing in a good anti-theft device.
  9. Keep your driver's license and vehicle registration with you. These documents reveal your address and can be used by a thief to target your home.  If more than one person requires the registration - make photocopies.
  10. If you see any suspicious person or activity near a vehicle, call the police immediately.
